George’s Hummus Recipe
Ingredients
2 cans of chickpeas
2 cloves of garlic
1 half of roasted red pepper
1 and a half tablespoons of olive oil
1 tablespoon of tahini
1 teaspoon of cumin
1 teaspoon of salt
Half a teaspoon of black pepper
2 tablespoons of H2O
This recipe is so simple and easy and the amount that is
made lasts for a week. I use my
cuisenart food processor to do the blending, but a magic bullet or blender
works just as well.
I put the 2 cans of chickpeas into a colander to rinse the
salt liquid off of the chickpeas. Next I put them into the processor, chop and
add the garlic. Pour in the olive oil and tahini, add the roasted peppers, and
add salt, pepper and cumin. Start the processor and as the mixture gets smooth
pour the water through the top hole of the processor. The mixture should start
to get smoother as you add the water.
Once you have the right consistency, try a taste! Add a little more salt
and black pepper if it needs it. Flavor is personal after all.
Corey and I were buying hummus every week until a co-worker
gifted the food processor to us (thank you Amanda). Now we save on something
that is a staple in our house.
Tastes great on toast, with crackers or tortilla chips. You
can also substitute olives or any other ingredients for the red peppers.
Hope you enjoy!
